Mr Fabian Junker
Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI), Institute of new Energy Systems (InES)
Position in NEED
|Fabian Junker studied the Bachelor degree course ‘Renewable Energy Technologies’ (faculty: Mechanical Engineering) at the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI), Germany and is currently studying the Master degree course ‘Applied Research in Engineering Sciences’ (faculty: Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) at the THI. Within the Master degree course, he is involved in a project from the Institute of new Energy Systems (InES) of THI, which is being processed over three semesters. The project is part of the NEED network (Work Package 6 `Mini-Grid Drylands´). The topic of the project is ‘Solar Energy Systems for Off-Grid Rural Electrification in Sub-Saharan Africa’. Since October 2015, he has been a researcher at the InES, and from March 2016 on, the will support the NEED project in his role as Renewable Energy Expert.|
In 2013, he completed an internship at the European Academy (EUR.AC) in Italy, dealing with international organisations such as the ‘Carpathian and Alpine Conventions‘, the UN, as well as several territorial agencies in the fields of sustainable development and energy technologies. He supported the research group ‘Photovoltaic Energy Systems‘. The focus of the research group is set on performance and reliability of photovoltaic systems, solar resources, photovoltaic integration in electricity grids and building integrated photovoltaics.
Before joining the InES team, Fabian Junker worked at Stadtwerke München GmbH (SWM), Germany. SWM are one of the largest German municipal utility and service companies, dealing with the fields of electricity, natural gas, district heating and water supply. During his time at SWM he supported the department ‘Development and Design‘. In his position as an engineer, he worked on the integration of solar process heat and solar electricity on the basis of power plants of SWM.
