About     

Ackim Zulu obtained his PhD degree from Newcastle University (UK) based on a thesis on novel configurations of electrical machines with no excitation sources on the rotating parts. He had previously studied electrical power engineering at Heriot-Watt University (UK) and University of Zambia. He has been Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at University of Zambia (UNZA) from 2004 and lecturer in the same department from 1994. He helped to develop the Masters degree programme in “Renewable Energy Engineering” at UNZA and teaches extensively on this programme. Before joining UNZA he worked for one year for the Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines as Senior Assistant Engineer and developed the Energy Conservation programme for Mufulira Division covering the power crisis that emanated from the fire accident of 1989 at Kafue Gorge Power Station. He is been involved in notable researches in sustainable energy conversion processes and application of new materials for electrical machines and buildings. His current research activities are in photovoltaic energy conversion applications. He has extensive association with developing engineering standards and regulations through the Energy Regulation Board (Zambia), the Zambia Bureau of Standards and the African Electro-technical Standardisation Commission.
